Miracles
The Naperville Chorus in travel has always been blessed with Miracles. This trip was no exception. One miracle that the entire chorus experienced can be described as the Miracle of the Buses. Buses seemed to expand or contract as needed -- often almost simultaneously. When we were met in Lisbon, the bus expanded to enable it to contain all of the luggage that was brought. Shortly thereafter, the bus shrank (under the command of Fernando, our Portugese bus driver) to enable it to sneak by the other buses. This was witnessed by the workers on the scaffolding near the bus, who ceased all work to watch the performance of the miracle. Another miracle was the Miracle of the Keycard. In Fatima, it disappeared and could not be found, even with three searchers. It reappeared after Janet returned from the shrine. |
The third miracle can be called the Reverse Miracle of Cannae. LuLu's (nom de tournée) perspicatious daughter had given instructions that her mother was to be given wine only in teaspoon quantities to prevent trouble. However LuLu had considerably more wine than that, and remained sedate and lady-like the entire time. Clearly the daughter could not have been wrong, so the wine was changed to water! We also saw the Miracle of the Suitcase. Marie-Dominique, our intrepid tour leader-Mother Superior would leave the bus with a small suitcase. From this small suitcase came an almost innumerable number of outfits including golden slippers, silver slippers and the incomparably elegant black dress that she wore to the gypsy dancing. |
