map of spain and portugal - small

altosThere was insurrection at one point by the alto section. Their large number precluded the praise that the section so richly deserved. This was quelled when the "Alto's Park" was found in Lisbon.

VerasMost of the group enjoyed a visit to see Flamenco dancers and to hear Flamenco music in Sevilla.

A much smaller number went to the caves above Granda to see and hear Gypsy music. The program was clearly a family event as we see what appears to be 3 generations helping produce the music. The youngest provides rhythm by (assisted) kicking of the speaker box.

Dancing wasn't confined to being a spectator sport. In a posh hotel in Avila, a strange dance took place. I don't really understand the significance, but I am sure it made a real statement on the meaning of life, the Universe and our role in it -- or that some people had too much wine.

Shopping was a common sport, altho the time to practice it on this trip was small. Some went for Lladro, and others for less sophisticated items. The rooster, while it appears to be virtually ubiquitous is Portugal, is not a symbol of Portugal, Paula assured us, but a symbol of the Portugese tourist industry. A mascot was found for the back-of-the-bus crew in a rest stop in Spain. His name is Clarence, and it was his winsome smile that led to his acquisition. (Pete insisted on this kind of a picture -- he wanted one where the web person looked silly).

Pete with Don quixoteAfter the last concert there was another party (the first party was in Leiria with the chorus there). There were speeches (short), wine (lots), presentations. I have some "excellent" pictures from this party -- however fear of suit precludes me from using them. Here we see Pete accepting his Don Quixote award for attempting to get the chorus to sing Spanish and to watch.

After we returned, Pete hosted a potluck. One of the features of the potluck was a cake in the form of a rooster -- the symbol of the tourist industry in Portugal. Rita Mathern penned a song, the words of which are in the out-takes section.

The following out-takes section is for chorus members please. The password is the last word in Congori Shango
